Press Briefing on Simex Rainforest Challenge (RFC)

The countdown has begun. The moment of truth will be dawning upon all the participants of the Simex Rainforest Challenge (RFC) in less than three weeks, starting from 28 th November to 7 th December. According to Encik Mohd Shukri Baharom, CEO of Continental Sime Tyres (CST), "Simex Jungle Trekker 2 and the Simex Extreme Trekker will once again be the teams' greatest assets in overcoming the awesome obstacles to come. These tyres were born in the RFC and have now proven to be an unbeatable tyre for extreme off-road conditions. Simex is proud to play a part in putting Malaysia on the international map of 4x4 adventure with the RFC." The event briefing was held at Sime Darby Tyre Technology Centre Theaterette on 8 th November 2004.

"And the monsoon rains have come early this year, expect heavy downpours to continue till December," commented Mr Luis J.A.Wee, the event founder and director at the same briefing. "All the local and international teams will have a great time overcoming the odds, enjoying camaraderie and coming up winners in their quest for adventure," he added. Furthermore, this year will be a record year, bringing in participants and press from 29 countries, beating its own Malaysia Book of Records for Most Countries Participation in a 4x4 Event achieved in the millennium year 2000. Also present was Mr Choong Kee Seng, the Sales & Marketing Director of CST.

The arrival of the foreign teams and their vehicles will itself be something for the general public to see.

From 24 th to 26 th November will be scrutineering days for the officials to check the various super modified cars from Europe, Asia, Oceania and North & South America before D-Day on 28 th November.
The opening ceremony will take place at Dataran Ipoh and will be flagged off by a Royal VIP. The first day's prologue special stages (first day of 4x4 action) will take place in the afternoon at Ulu Kinta which is also open to the public.

Among the new countries shipping their " battle 4x4 rigs " over will be Chile, Argentina and Hungary. Others will be from Poland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland, UK, Czech Republic, Greece, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, China, Korea and Australia. The RFC is now the world's most internationally represented 4x4 event which made its debut in November 1997. It is also a Top Ten Award winner in Malaysia's Most Spectacular Sports Tourism Events achieved in 2004. Malaysia will, of course, be represented with 8 teams, among them an all ladies team from Kedah.

Check out the foreign and local super modified 4x4s at Eastin hotel, PJ and or catch them in Ipoh on 28th November. This is the " F1 of the 4x4 adventure world."
