I've found an old low mileage I6 to swap into my desert truck. I have a R151 trans from a 22re turbo. Will the 5M-GE bolt to that? or do I need a different bellhousing? “you need the bellhousing from a 5spd non turbo supra with a w58 motor” “Or a 7M-GTE bellhousing, and a R154 transmission with the tail housing swapped over from an R150F or R151F. Or a 7M-GTE bellhousing with a newer R150 with the longer input shaft.” 2jz-gte swap question Hi, I have a 1996 toyota 4runner with the 3.4l v6, and 5speed tranny…….. “The 2JZ came with two oil pans. Front sump, in the Aristo, and rear sump in the Supra, and Lexus IS, SC, and maybe GS? If one doesn't work, I'm sure the other will. A Toyota 1JZ bellhousing and flywheel will allow you to bolt an R series trasmission onto the 2JZ, assuming you have a long input shaft. So, you're looking at late gen R150, an R154, or an early R150 with a swapped input shaft. “A couple of choices need to be made before you start: 1jz or 2jz: yeah the 2 is 3.0 vers 2.5 of the 1, BUT the 1jz with its r154 Will allow you to avoid cutting your bell housing, your output shaft IS too short to bolt to your transfer case, so you will need to rebuilt the 154 with your output shaft then the transfer will bolt up directly with nothing fabricated. Note: the 2jz that you would get would be JDM (the usdm would be 4k as apose to the 2k you see on ebay) will most likely be from a Aristo, this is a good thing it is much cheaper than the supra's, and if you mount it more rear "As explained below" then it already has a front sump pan that will require less modification to clear. “The R154 was never meant to be mounted to a transfercase. What you need to do, is swap the output shaft, and rear housing from an R150 (V6 truck/4runner) onto the R154. You can then bolt an R150 transfer case (or maybe more, I'm not sure) to the R154. Then you use a 1JZ bellhousing to bolt the R154 to a 1JZ or 2JZ motor.” Tips “They (Toyota) do make a 1jz belhousing you can use on the r154 supra trans but that would require swapping the input shaft from the r154 into the r150f because the r154 input is longer than the r150f.” “FYI a Lexus IS300 manual 5 speed bell housing will work for a W-56 (may hold up for a while). I am mating a w56 to my 2JZ.....no boost yet. The IS300 lexus bell housing will have to be shaved a few mm to accommodate the input shaft length...” “….so i went with have the R154(turbo supra tranny) and half the R150 v6 4x4 tranny. crappy gearing but it allows me to run the turbo supra pull type clutch. ive been running the stock aisin clutch for months wihtout problems unless you count the rear ends” “i have been running a w56 behind my 7m-gte and its been screaming sounding like a banshi plus the DF push type clutch cannot hold the torque of the engine once its revs up a bit. What i did was i took all the gears and front half of the casing from the Turbo supra transmission R154 and used the output shaft and rear casing of the v6 transmisison R150F which allows me to have a trasfercase and use a pull type clutch. It doesn't have the greatest gear ratio(actually it sucks 3.31:1 first) but it does give me the ability to run a clutch capible of handle over 550ft-lbs of torque with a transmission that can handle whatever power i can throw at it”
